Dr Robbert Van Putten

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine
Beerse, Belgium

Robbert van Putten is an interdisciplinary engineer from the Netherlands with a strong background in chemical engineering, catalysis, automation, and data science. He obtained his PhD in chemical engineering from Delft University of Technology in 2021 under the guidance of prof. dr. Evgeny A. Pidko (TU Delft) and prof. dr. Klavs F. Jensen (MIT). During his PhD, Robbert focused on the development and application of automation and data-rich experimentation technologies for homogeneous catalysis research and development. He is a co-author of fifteen publications, one patent, and four grant applications.
Robbert was a visiting graduate student at MIT in the group of prof. Jensen, where he worked on automated microfluidic screening and optimization of a challenging Ru-catalyzed asymmetric ketone hydrogenation. Additionally, Robbert is a co-founder of CyberHydra B.V., a deep-tech start-up that aims to commercialize several lab automation and PAT tools that were developed during his PhD. In his current role at Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine, Robbert works in J&J’s chemocat high-throughput experimentation team. Here, he specializes in the application of real-time process monitoring techniques (e.g., NIR/MIR and Raman spectroscopy, image analysis), multivariate analysis and predictive modeling tools, and automation with cobots for pharmaceutical process development.
